Oregon City Lions Club 2016 Service Recognition

Congratualtions to Lion Tom Scheideman! The Oregon City Lions Club's "Lion of the Year"

Tom has worked tirelessly for many years collecting used eyeglasses, hearing aids and cell phones from several collection sites around Oregon City. He picks up the eyeglasses, sorts them, and then delivers them to the Oregon Lions Sight and Hearing Foundation.

In 2016 Tom collected 2,978 eyeglasses, 42 cell phones, and 70 hearing aids!

The eyeglasses are cleaned and calibrated by women in the optical training program at the Coffee Creek Womens Correctional Facility then are distributed to those in need at volunteer run clinics in Mexico.

Hearing aids are refurbished and provided to those who need hearing aids but cannot afford them.

Cell phones are recycled and the precious metals are sold as a fundraiser for the Oregon Lions Sight and Hearing Foundation.
